Have you ever been outdoors on a day when the sun shines in a clear blue sky and does so relentlessly, to the extent that heat, humidity, become uncomfortable, unbearable? If so, did you seek shade? Did you feel the relief of being out of direct sunlight and it being just a little cooler, fresher?
My guess is, the vast majority of people will answer “yes” to the above. So don’t be surprised that fish, particularly cold water species e.g. trout do exactly the same!
In the header image you can see me targeting holding water that remained in shade on a classic blue bird day. I’m also in a shaded area, more comfortable, yes, but that’s not the point. Being in a shaded area, close to the undergrowth and dressed appropriately, I’m less likely to be noticed, or at least tolerated a little longer, by the fish I’m targeting. This is a win/win situation.
