Fishing is undoubtedly a combination of skill and luck, based on the successful outcome being catching a fish. Many people overweight the luck element involved, particularly those who catch infrequently. Some people overweight the skill element, and I admit to falling foul of this on occasion. The truth is both luck and skill play their part. Short term, luck may have a greater influence on results, while over time skill has a greater influence. Partly to feed my own curiosity and partly to enable me to help myself and others improve, I digest a varied spectrum of podcasts (more on this here). Since encountering this interview back in 2021, I’ve implemented the concepts to fly fishing, with some very interesting results. I found the whole interview of interest, however if you don’t, the real golden information, from my point of view, is packed into the last hour! Don’t ignore the show notes either and do get the book if reading is your thing!
I’m going to let you glean ideas and information from this rather different resource. I’d never have considered poker as a model that could be used for fishing, without both, having my eyes opened to the possibility AND being open minded enough to accept it!
Have fun and thanks for your interest.
